    Course Requirements and Expectations

Expectations: Course Expectations include showing up to class on time, making up missed work within the week you are absent, putting a full effort into class activities, participating on a regular basis, sharing relevant information and ideas for discussion, and most importantly, respecting your fellow students and teacher. My goal is to make this class a community where students feel safe to share their ideas, thoughts, and opinions, so give the same respect to others as you would like to be given to you. I will give my utmost respect to all of you and I expect the same in return. I want this to be your favorite class and the best way to do that is to allow you to freely share your ideas in an environment that is welcoming.

Requirements: Grades will be calculated from a few different areas that will be weighted differently based on importance. These areas will include participation, journals, homework assignments, quizzes, tests, and projects; however, my goal is to give you ample time to do homework like activities in class, because my hope is that you absorb the material and learn it, rather than rushing through it at home and not be able to discuss it. This is why participation in class will be your key to success in this class. There will be no tricks, your success will come from being in class, listening and participating in each class activity to the best of your ability, I guarantee it.

    What to do First?

1.Create a gmail account by going to gmail.com, clicking on new user, and creating a new username and password.

    2. Go to http://www.blogger.com and use your new gmail account email as your new username for blogspot and create a new password. Then create a blogspot account and blog. Find my blog http://mrgushistory.blogspot.com and click on the follow button to follow my blog for news and homework assignments.

    Supplies and Materials

    Supplies for the Class:
1.Each student will be supplied with the text The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens.  This will be the book we will use to do most of our work out of and help us navigate through the complexities of the course.
    2. Students must have a three ring binder to keep handouts and papers.
    3. Each Student must buy two spiral notebooks for the class. If this is an economic hardship then I will workout some way to provide notebooks for those students. One notebook will be used for keeping notes and taken home daily for students to review. The second notebook will be used for writing daily journals answering discussion questions at the beginning of the day's lesson and left in the classroom.
    4. Students should always come to class with a sharp pencil, or blue or black ink pen.
Optional- This class will have a lot of activities that include drawing and coloring, so it would be helpful if students brought in or had their own colored markers and or pencils.
